Jepun

In Bali, the frangipani is called jepun. Before the day properly starts, small palm-leaf offerings are laid on doorsteps, shrines and temple walls, often with flowers. The jepun is among those flowers.

It is not a flower for a vase. It falls, is picked up, is placed, and falls again. By the end of the day, it has returned to the ground.

That is the first thing the island taught us: a beautiful thing does not need to last to be given its place.
